i despie leggings. i could rant on and on about them. but i’ll spare you. for now.
however, i do love tights! black tights. purple tights. yellow tights. you name it. i love them all.
sooo jocey sent me a link to where there were quite a few interesting-looking tights. all kinds of textures and colors and patterns. awesome! some of my favorites:

eiffel tower leggings by alexander mcqueen, $155. oh alexander mcqueen, why’re you busting my ass with your $155 tights. sad day.

Falke Sheer Wrap Detail Tights, $30.
american apparel also has opaque two-color pantyhose that are $16. they come in black/white, fluorescent yellow/coral [zomg], etc.
for some reason their pictures won’t show up when i try to post them though. DAMN YOU AMERICAN APPAREL.
while i don’t necessarily like american apparel for certain reasons, i can’t deny that their selection of tights is pretty awesome.
anyway. can’t wait for spring/summer to finally come around so i can break out the tights! hooray!
ah yes, charlie the unicorn. you know, i’ll be honest, when i first saw the 1st episode, i wasn’t all that impressed. it just didn’t seem funny to me. but upon watching it for the second time a while after, i thought it was the most hilarious thing ever. maybe it’s just one of those things you need to see a few times before the funny-ness really sinks in. like a top 40 billboard song. it’s not all that great the first time you hear it. but after repeat hearings, you think it’s the best song ever. so here i give you, ‘charlie the unicorn, episode 1.’
and episode 2:
and the all-new, episode 3:
i definitely think when you need cheering up and/or something mindless to watch or whatever, the charlie the unicorn series is good for that. i also think that it’s probably something that’s infinitely better if you watch it while you’re high as a kite. but that’s just speculation. cause i mean, c’mon, you know some stoner probably thought this up while high and thought it was the funniest thing ever but in reality it’s not that funny.
just sayin’.
p.s. surprisingly, charlie the unicorn does not have its own wikipedia page. wtf.
Carl Fredricksen (Edward Asner) is a retired 78-year-old balloon salesman. When Carl was a child, he met and eventually married a girl named Ellie who grew up in a small midwestern town. Ellie always dreamed of visiting South America, but she died before she got a chance. Now, when developers threaten to move him into an assisted living home, Carl decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie. To accomplish this, he uses a huge number of balloons to make the house fly – but unwittingly takes a chubby eight-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell with him. The two opposites match up for thrilling adventures as they encounter wild terrain, unexpected foes, and all the terrifying creatures that wait in the jungle.

it’s been a good few days since my last post – sorry! i know i’ve kind of been lagging and the days between posts are getting greater and greater. ack! got too caught up with school and non-school related stuff….
this past weekend was maasu which was really, really great. the conference itself went fairly smoothly [at least i thought so] and the group dynamic of the uic-ers was really fun. this was my third maasu and my last one as a student! SAD DAY. perhaps i’ll write an entry about it later on. i haven’t quite decided how ‘personal’ i want to make this blog yet we’ll see.
so anyway! back to popular culture randomness. i think i was being a creeper and saw this on vicky and brandon’s facebook wall-to-wall and decided to check it out myself:
the deep font challenge.
[bee tee dubs, i felt it was important to note for myself that i finally figured out how to use the print screen function on the keyboard - yay! ]
this is the deep font challenge. essentially, you are shown examples of two different fonts. the game will ask you to identify which font is comic sans, for example, and you have to figure out which example given to you is comic sans.
your score is determined by how fast you can ’shoot’ the correct one. i haven’t gotten very far but it seems like the next level asks you to shoot the examples that aren’t a certain font.
it’s pretty interesting! [at least i think it is]. check it out!
so i don’t watch the ellen show regularly, but every now and then i’ll catch a youtube clip of it or whatever. and reese witherspoon was on the show very recently and they were talking about how i guess reese feels like she’s really bad at award show acceptance speeches. so ellen decided to help her write a speech by using madlibs and it turned out to be pretty funny!:
so i work at the asian american resource and cultural center on my campus and this wednesday is our kick-off event for asian american awareness month. we’ve invited the editors of “secret identities” to come and speak about this new asian american-centered superhero comic anthology:
Asian Americans are comic book artists, writers, and fans, but rarely represented as heroic characters on the page. Thus the creation of Secret Identities, an anthology of original stories centered around Asian American superheroes. Join the editors of this groundbreaking book: New York Times best-selling author Jeff Yang, comics education specialist Keith Chow, and actor Parry Shen, for a multimedia presentation and interactive workshop as they share their own experiences as Asian Americans in media and film, and preview these unique Asian American heroes.
i got to interview them for our newsletter, AARCConnections, in our april 2009 issue. they were really fun to talk to and we definitely had to cut out a TON of the interview [the transcription was originally ~15 pages!!] cause we were talking for so long!
if you’re in the chicagoland area this wednesday, you should come hear them speak! here are the deets:
"secret identities" book cover.
DATE: Wednesday, April 1st
TIME: 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: UIC Student Center East, Illinois Room BC
A reception will follow and books will be available for purchase and signing. For more information, contact Corinne Kodama at ckodama@uic.edu, 312-413-9569, or visit http://aarcc.uic.edu.
they’ve even got a trailer for the anthology:
AND a youtube channel! be sure to check it out! they’ve got weekly preview/videos of certain comics too. be sure to order a copy on amazon.com. i know i’ll definitely be getting a copy when they come speak! CAN’T WAIT!!
so i’d seen this commercial a few times on television and thought it was the cutest thing ever:
i mean seriously, is that not the most adorable kid you’ve ever seen?! and she knows how to edit and send pictures via email at just four years old [that is, if you take this commercial at face value]! awesome. i want my potential future kids to be as precious and tech-savy as she is!
i’m leaving for vegas today so unless there’s free internet access at the hotel or something, i won’t be posting for a few days. hopefully i’ll be back with good stories to tell and even better stories to post.
so i like my socks to have a little ’spice’ to them, i’ll admit it. i’ve got a bunch of socks from jcrew that have stripes or argyle or martini glasses or whatever on them. it just makes ‘em more fun.
sooooo as i was going through my thrillist emails, i came across ashi dashi:
AshiDashi means, “stick out your feet!” in Japanese. In a world where the majority of socks are brown, blue, black and boring, we wanted to give our friends a reason to call some attention to their toes. We think socks are sort of magical—a secret, hidden surprise. Even if you’re in a business suit or wearing your “serious” slacks, a peek of color and a funky design can add a little flavor to your look and put a spring in your step.
Here are some of my favorites from their website:

are these not the cutest/most createive socks you’ve ever seen? they’re kinda pricey at $10+ a pair but you’ll be the coolest kid on the block with these suckers.
